Arturo Arriagada specializes in studying the impact of technological change on work and social life. His research focuses on the role of algorithms and digital platforms in the work cultures and dynamics of influencers, delivery riders and app drivers, sellers on platforms such as Mercado Libre, and musicians. He is currently studying the introduction of AI in the creative industries, including the audiovisual, media, music, and videogame sectors. He currently leads the Millennium Nucleus on the Evolution of Work (MNEW) as principal investigator and directs Cultura Social Media, a research lab on the social, economic, and cultural implications of digital communication.
He has published in leading journals in the fields of communication, sociology, and cultural studies, such as Journal of Cultural Economy, Big Data & Society, Convergence, and New Technology, Work & Employment. His research has been funded by institutions such as ANID, IDRC, and the Internet Society Foundation, among others.
