The development of applications employing artificial intelligence (AI) to generate images, videos, texts, or music has sparked a genuine trend on social networks such as TikTok, Twitter (X), Instagram, or YouTube in the past two years. AI-generated images, like the fake arrest of Donald Trump or the Pope dressed in a silver coat, quickly became trends worldwide. AI technology has also proliferated in the development of content in audiovisual production, through innovations in video recording, with face recognition for near-perfect tracking shots, or in video post-production with face swapping (deepfakes), among other advancements. Likewise, Virtual Reality environments or multisensory stimulation (in video games and entertainment) are being increasingly commercialized successfully by brands like PlayStation, Oculus, Meta, or Tesla Suit. All these technological innovations, combined with the creative possibilities of creations through AI, generate new possibilities to create artificial worlds, worlds where a citizen with goggles and a multisensory vest feels like they’re in a different place, without leaving their home. A new world where creations made with AI are so realistic that we can’t differentiate them from a real image. This new playing field presents new challenges when analyzing a political campaign, fake news, a piece of art, a movie, or any audiovisual generated through these new technologies.
