After the death of Masha Amini at the hands of the Iranian Morality Police for not wearing the hijab, in accordance with what they considered appropriate in September 2022, a social media campaign called “Hair for Freedom” was sparked on different platforms, with videos of women cutting their hair in protest over Iranian women’s rights and Amini’s death. This paper analyzes whether this digital feminist movement enacted an interreligious dialogue (IRD). Based on content analysis and topic modeling of the publications retrieved from three major platforms, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, the results indicate that this was mainly a Western movement focused on women’s bodies as a political symbol in authoritarian Islamic regimes and has not achieved an IRD since most social media posts reproduced the hashtag #HairForFredom without opening a religious discussion. As observed in other digital movements, conclusions indicate that social media activism does not offer an opportunity to engage in dialogues to enlighten the public sphere. On the contrary, the focus appears to provide users with the opportunity to enhance their reputation by engaging in popular social media campaigns that promote social change.

Esta publicación es resultado del proyecto «Diálogo Brasil-España por la innovación docente en comunicación inclusiva: diagnóstico y propuestas de actuación a partir de la investigación acción» (FSXXXVIII-FS07), financiado por la Fundación Autònoma Solidaria. Desarrollado durante dos años, entre septiembre de 2021 y octubre de 2023, ha estado coordinado por el Instituto de la Comunicación de la Universitat Aótònoma de Barcelona (InCom-UAB) en colaboración con el Programa de Postgrado (Máster y Doctorado) en Comunicación y Prácticas de Consumo de la Escuela Superior de Propaganda y Marketing (ESPM), São Paulo/Brasil.

This article is a theoretical essay discussing the potential for the analysis of media accessibility contents and practices (AD, SDH, Sign Language Interpreting, etc.) through a queer feminist lens, which makes it possible to tackle the representation of diversity and non-normativity. The conclusions highlight the need to bring accessibility closer to contemporary concerns in research, i.e., gender, queer, feminist, and postcolonial issues.

Es el primer libro en español sobre Herta Herzog (Austria, 1910-2010), pionera en la investigación en Comunicación y mimbro de la Escuela de Columbia. La obra incluye la primera traducción de un texto canónico en el área: «La experiencia prestada: análisis de la escucha de seriales radiofónicos diurnos» (1941). Amparo Huertas firma el primer capítulo, donde repasa la trayectoria vital e intelectual de forma biográfica.

Intersectional feminist translation provides visibility to the historically hidden or marginalized characters and narratives. This article interrogates the strategies we can apply to translate images into words, that is, to audio describe non-normative identities while adhering to the particularities of audiovisual productions. It poses the question of how to provide a feminist audio description that aligns with the creators’ intent. The objective of this study is to analyse the strategies applied to create a gender-conscious AD of a documentary on lesbophobia where ten women share their experiences as non-normative persons.
