«Critical Learning in Digital Networks», JANDRIC, Petar; BORAS, Damir (Eds.) (2015)

LibrosTecnologías de la comunicación

This ambitious multidisciplinary volume assembles diverse critical-theory approaches to the current and future states of networked learning. Expert contributors expand upon the existing literature by analyzing the ethical aspects of networked learning and the ongoing need for more open, inclusive, and socially engaged educational practice. Chapters explore in depth evolving concepts of real and virtual, the processes of learning in, against, and beyond the internet, and the role of critical pedagogy in improving social conditions. In all, coverage is both realistic and positive about the potential of digital technologies in higher education as well as social and academic challenges on the horizon.

Included among the topics:

Counting on use of technology to enhance learning.
Decentralized networked learning through online pre-publication.
The reality of the online teacher.
Moving from urban to virtual spaces and back.
The project of a virtual emancipatory pedagogy.
Using information technologies in the service of humanity.

It is no longer a question of "Can technology enhance learning" it's a given that it does.

Critical Learning in Digital Networks offers education researchers, teacher educators, instructional technologists, and instructional designers tools and methods for strengthening this increasingly vital interconnection.

«Hallyu 2.1 The Korean Wave in the Age of Social Media», LEE, Sangjoon; NORNES, Abé Mark (Eds.) (2015)

LibrosTecnologías de la comunicación

Collectively known as Hallyu, Korean music, television programs, films, online games, and comics enjoy global popularity, thanks to new communication technologies. In recent years, Korean popular culture has also become the subject of academic inquiry. Whereas the Hallyu’s impact on Korea’s national image and domestic economy, as well as on transnational cultural flows, have received much scholarly attention, there has been little discussion of the role of social media in Hallyu’s propagation.

Contributors to Hallyu 2.1: The Korean Wave in the Age of Social Media explore the ways in which Korean popular cultural products are shared by audiences around the globe; how they generate new fans, markets, and consumers through social media networks; and how scholars can analyze, interpret, and envision the future of this unprecedented cultural phenomenon.

“Hallyu 2.0’s endeavor—to ‘explore how Korean popular-cultural products have been circulated, disseminated, and consumed by audiences around the globe’—is eminently timely and worthy. The volume has an important contribution to make to scholarship on the Korean Wave. It will be of interest to scholars and students as well as an eager global base of fans keen to read more academic approaches to Korean popular music and dramas.”

«Indigenous People and Mobile Technologies», DYSON, Laurel Evelyn; GRANT, Stephen; HENDRIKS, Max (Eds.) (2015)

LibrosTecnologías de la comunicación

In the rich tradition of mobile communication studies and new media, this volume examines how mobile technologies are being embraced by Indigenous people all over the world. As mobile phones have revolutionised society both in developed and developing countries, so Indigenous people are using mobile devices to bring their communities into the twenty-first century.

The explosion of mobile devices and applications in Indigenous communities addresses issues of isolation and building an environment for the learning and sharing of knowledge, providing support for cultural and language revitalisation, and offering the means for social and economic renewal. This book explores how mobile technologies are overcoming disadvantage and the tyrannies of distance, allowing benefits to flow directly to Indigenous people and bringing wide-ranging changes to their lives. It begins with general issues and theoretical perspectives followed by empirical case studies that include the establishment of Indigenous mobile networks and practices, mobile technologies for social change and, finally, the ways in which mobile technology is being used to sustain Indigenous culture and language.

«The Future Internet: Alternative Visions», WINTER, Jenifer; ONO, Ryota (Eds.) (2015)

LibrosTecnologías de la comunicación

Readers seeking to gain a handle on the internet's global expansion will find this book rich in scholarly foundations combined with cutting-edge discussion of emerging ICTs and services and the complex societal contexts in which they are embedded. To explore possibilities to the fullest extent, a sociotechnical systems approach is employed, focusing on the interplay of technical, social, cultural, political, and economic dynamics to explore alternative futures (ones that are not part of the dominant discourse about the internet).

These shared perspectives are not well addressed elsewhere in current discussions. Awareness of these dynamics, and the fluidity of the future, is important, as humankind moves forward into the uncertain future. Due to the sociotechnical complexity of the Internet, policymakers, businesspeople, and academics worldwide have struggled to keep abreast of developments. This volume's approach is intended to stimulate dialogue between academics and practitioners on a topic that will affect most aspects of human life in the near-term future.
