The internet of things is praised as a new step in the digitization and the future of our computer-based access to the world: invisible, smart, miniaturized, and omnipresent, gadgets and devices are supposed to pervade our everyday lives. Connecting everything with chips, tags, and sensors is transforming our relationship to technology and grants these items a new place in the world. This volume combines first-time translations of paradigmatic English texts with current analyses by German language authors, providing an overview of the current discussion about the history, epistemology, techniques, and applications of the internet of things. With contributions by Katherine N. Hayles, Mercedes Bunz, Erich Hörl, Jussi Parikka, Jens Schröter, and others.
