How relevant is the three-tiered model of public sphere for the theory and empirical analysis of communication studies research on public spheres? The contributions to this volume deal with women's and feminist public spheres from a historical perspective, reflect the effects of political public spheres, and discuss the relation between private and public matters on the internet. Furthermore, the three-tiered model is put into the context of participatory and deliberate public sphere models, and further developments are proposed.
