«Bourdieu, Habitus and Social Research. The Art of Application», COSTA, Cristina; MURPHY, Mark (Eds.) (2015)

Comunicación y culturaLibros

This collection brings together for the first time a set of researchers whose research methodologies centre on Bourdieu's concept of habitus. Full of insight and innovation, the book is an essential read for anyone wanting to know more about approaches to social theory and its application in research. One of its core objectives is to assist social researchers in their capacity to harness the potential of habitus as a methodological tool, thereby helping to bridge the often troublesome dichotomy between theory and method in the social sciences. It also provides a useful and practical resource on how effectively to apply the concept of habitus to scholarship/research, and can easily be used as a reference book in postgraduate programmes.

«Time Travel in Popular Media. Essays on Film, Television, Literature and Video Games», JONES, Matthew; ORMROD, Joan (Eds.) (2015)

Expresiones audiovisualesLibros

In recent years numerous films, television series, comic books, graphic novels and video games have featured time travel narratives, with characters jumping backward, forward and laterally through time. No rules govern time travel in these stories. Some characters move by machine, some by magic, others by unexplained means. Sometime travelers can alter the timeline, while others are prevented from causing temporal aberrations. The fluid forms of imagined time travel have fascinated audiences and prompted debate since at least the 19th century.

What is behind our fascination with time travel? What does it mean to be out of one’s own era? How do different media tell these stories and what does this reveal about the media’s relationship to time? This collection of new essays—the first to address time travel across a range of media—answers these questions by locating time travel narratives within their cultural, historical and philosophical contexts. Texts discussed include Doctor Who, The Terminator, The Georgian House, Save the Date, Back to the Future, Inception, Source Code and others.

«The Routledge Handbook of Environment and Communication», HANSEN, Anders; COX, Robert (Eds.) (2015)

Comunicación y culturaLibros

This Handbook provides a comprehensive statement and reference point for theory, research and practice with regard to environment and communication, and it does this from a perspective which is both international and multi-disciplinary in scope. Offering comprehensive critical reviews of the history and state of the art of research into the key dimensions of environmental communication, the chapters of this handbook together demonstrate the strengths of multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to understanding the centrality of communication to how the environment is constructed, and indeed contested, socially, politically and culturally.

Organised in five thematic sections, The Routledge Handbook of Environment and Communication includes contributions from internationally recognised leaders in the field. The first section looks at the history and development of the discipline from a range of theoretical perspectives. Section two considers the sources, communicators and media professionals involved in producing environmental communication. Section three examines research on news, entertainment media and cultural representations of the environment. The fourth section looks at the social and political implications of environmental communication, with the final section discussing likely future trajectories for the field.

The first reference Handbook to offer a state of the art comprehensive overview of the emerging field of environmental communication research, this authoritative text is a must for scholars of environmental communication across a range of disciplines, including environmental studies, media and communication studies, cultural studies and related disciplines.

«Organized chaos. Reimagining the internet», RAYMOND, Mark; SMITH, Gordon V. (2014)

Estructura y políticas de la comunicaciónLibros

Anonymous. Cybercrime. Hacktivist. Cyber security. Now part of the lexicon of our daily language, these words were unknown a decade ago. The evolution and expansion of the Internet has transformed communication, business and politics, and the Internet has become a powerful influence on everyday life globally. But the Internet is a medium that is not controlled by one centralized system, and the debate over who will govern the Internet has commanded attention from a wide range of actors, including states, policy makers and those beyond the traditional tech industries. Organized Chaos: Reimagining the Internet examines the contemporary international politics of Internet governance problems, exploring issues such as cybercrime, activities of the global hacktivist network Anonymous and 'swing states', and highlighting central trends that will play a role in shaping a universal policy to govern the Internet. In this book, some of the world's foremost Internet governance scholars consider the critical problems facing efforts to update and refine Internet governance at an international level and the appropriate framework for doing so. This volume provides the basis for developing a high-level strategic vision required to successfully navigate a multi-faceted, shifting and uncertain governance environment.
