«Consulting That Matters. A Handbook for Scholars and Practitioners», WALDECK, Jennifer H.; SEIBOLD, David R. (Eds.) (2016)

LibrosTeorías de la comunicación y metodología

Each year, thousands of consulting contracts are awarded by organizations to experts who help them with challenges involving people, processes, technologies, goals, resource allocation, decision making, problem solving, and more. These experts – consultants – diagnose problems, recommend solutions, facilitate interventions, and evaluate outcomes that are often related to human communication. Some consultants are academicians skilled in both doing and interpreting research for clients; others are practitioners with little use for research and theory. Driving all of the ideas showcased in Consulting That Matters: A Handbook for Scholars and Practitioners is the premise that sound theory and research are critical to consulting success, and should be the blueprints for successful organizational transformation. Thus, this book is for all types of consultants, including the very best who are at the top of their games and those who believe theory and research belong in ivory towers, not business settings. Featuring a «who’s who» of preeminent communication scholars/consultants, each author shares frameworks, strategies, and examples from their own diverse experiences, all grounded in rich, substantive theory and research. The volume offers even the most skilled and experienced consultants a range of alternative approaches, paradigms, and competencies to build their credibility and make them more valuable to their clients in a dynamic, ever-evolving business climate.

«Social Memory Technology: Theory, Practice, Action», WORCMAN, Karen; GARDE-HANSEN, Joanne (2016)

LibrosTeorías de la comunicación y metodología

Memory is a fundamental aspect of being and becoming, intimately entwined with space, time, place, landscape, emotion, imagination and identity. Memory studies is a burgeoning field of enquiry drawing from a range of social science, arts and humanities disciplines including human geography, sociology, cultural studies, media studies, heritage and museum studies, psychology and history.

This book is a critically theorised practical exposition of how media and technology are used to make memories for museums, archives, social movements and community projects, looking at specific cases in the UK and Brazil where the authors have put these theories into practice. The authors define the protocol they present as social memory technology. Critically, this book is about learning to deal with our pasts and learning new methods of connecting our pasts across cultures toward a shared understanding and application of memory technologies.

«Media Transatlantic: Developments in Media and Communication Studies Between North American and German-Speaking Europe», FRIESEN, Norm (Ed.) (2016)

LibrosTeorías de la comunicación y metodología

This book reflects recent scholarly and theoretical developments in media studies, or Medienwissenschaft. It focuses on linkages between North America and German-speaking Europe, and brings together and contextualizes contributions from a range of leading scholars. In addition to introducing English-language readers to some of the most prominent contemporary German media theorists and philosophers, including Claus Pias, Sybille Kramer and Rainer Leschke, the book shows how foundational North American contributions are themselves inspired and informed by continental sources. This book takes Harold Innis or Marshall McLuhan (and other members of the "Toronto School") as central points of reference, and traces prospective and retrospective lines of influence in a cultural geography that is increasingly global in its scope. In so doing, the book also represents a new episode in the international reception and reinterpretation of the work of Innis and McLuhan, the two founders of the theory and study of media.

«Citizen Media and Public Spaces», BAKER, Mona; BLAAGAARD, Bolette B. (Ed.) (2016)

LibrosTeorías de la comunicación y metodología

Citizen Media and Public Spaces presents a pioneering exploration of citizen media as a highly interdisciplinary domain that raises vital political, social and ethical issues relating to conceptions of citizenship and state boundaries, the construction of publics and social imaginaries, processes of co-optation and reverse co-optation, power and resistance, the ethics of witnessing and solidarity, and novel responses to the democratic deficit.

Framed by a substantial introduction by the editors, the twelve contributions to the volume interrogate the concept of citizen media theoretically and empirically, and offer detailed case studies that extend from the UK to Russia and Bulgaria and from China to Denmark and the liminal spaces within which a growing number of refugees now live.

A rich new domain of scholarship and practice emerges out of the studies presented. Citizen media is shown to embrace both physical and digital interventions in public space, as well as the sets of values and agendas that influence and drive the practices and discourses through which individuals and collectives position themselves within and in relation to society and participate in the creation of diverse publics.

This book will be of interest to students and researchers in media and communication studies, particularly those studying citizen media, media and society, journalism and society, and political communication.

«Health and the Media: Essays on the Effects of Mass Communication», MARINESCU, Valentina; MITU, Bianca (Eds.) (2016)

LibrosTeorías de la comunicación y metodología

The present volume fills in a gap in the emerging field of media and health by including micro and macro-level oriented approaches of health and communication, based on multiple methodologies. The authors analyze the media and medicine from different perspectives. Interesting and revealing results emerge, which contribute to the re-evaluation of health communication and health literacy theories. Moreover, even if contributors to this book come from different countries (USA, UK, Poland, France, Australia, Romania) they somehow manage to reach a common language in their studies, offering a re-positioning of the debates on the link between media and medicine. The new perspectives offered are of interest to any health communication or media studies scholar because they bring to light new ideas, new methodologies and results that could be further developed. At the same time, the volume allows readers to explore these unique insights and to easily digest the content and acknowledge the impact of media on health and healthcare.
