A few weeks ago I took the first selfie I felt good about in a while. Getting there felt like a complicated ritual: My hair had just been cut and bleached, I’d shaved, put makeup and my favorite outfit on, and I stood in front of a window during golden hour. It struck me in that moment, looking at the photo of myself, how far I’d come, both in accepting the way I look in selfies and understanding why I’d hated them for so long.
